The Why
"When Axel was starting kindergarten we decided to TRY public school but it was a was a challenge from the start. I believe children do not learn sitting still, being quite is hard and rarely socializing is not helpful to learning. As a teacher, I tried to find ways to allow him to succeed in public school,but ultimately his self esteem was suffering, which is much more important to me than academics, any day. Axel, then, attended a forest school in Kindergarten and First grade. He thrived with the freedom of learning. He was not reading at all with his stint in public school and is now reading at grade level and enjoys the books HE wants to read.
Watching that made me realize that this is needed in our community more than ever. So I left teaching public school, with a dream of starting a school in our little community and I am truly excited to see what will come." -Amanda Petrie-Jorgensen

My family consists of an 9 year old named Axel and a 3.5 year old named Torin and my Danish husband Bo.
My bachelor's degree is in Early Childhood and Adolescent Education. I have an add on in special education from San Jose State University. I obtained my teaching credential at Chico State University. I started my career as a para educator and then became a teacher. I had an amazing teacher and mentor, who pushed me to accomplish a credential. I have taught in many different classrooms including preschool special education, Push in lower elementary, upper elementary, and Assessment services. I started homeschooling my son Axel during Covid and fell in love with the creativeness of the curricula.
